GOT CORN? We do.

The first chill of fall has come in the night but summer veggies are still at their peak.   Sweet corn, basil, tomatoes, peppers, eggplants and big beautiful sunflower bouquets.  We have it all.  This is the time for the best of what summer has to offer.   We soak our corn in the husk then put it on the grill for 10 minutes.  It’s great.  We are open till October 31, 9:30-2:00. Tell your friends and neighbors to come on down.  See you at the market.

Governor Proclaims Aug. 1-8 Farmers Market Week!

Oregon’s Governor officially proclaimed August 1-8 Farmers Market Week.   Join other Oregonians and support local farmers by visiting your local farmers market this week and every week throughout the market season.   There are over 100 farmers markets in Oregon.  Milwaukie Farmers Market is Oregon’s oldest Sunday farmers market.  Thanks for supporting your local farmers market!

New vendors this week:

Country Grains: Looking for breakfast at the market? Here it is.  Waffles with strawberries and whip cream, breakfast sandwiches,  strawberry shortcake & panini sandwiches.  Fill up here before loading up your bags with the best fruits & veggies Oregon has to offer.

Don’s Apples: The best selection of local heirloom apples.  Over 45 varieties throughout the season.  Don and his wife are two of the sweetest people you will meet.  Stop by and say hi.

Yorepots: Planters made of compressed volcanic ash from Eastern Oregon.  Great for the garden.

Suburban Contessa: Cedar grilling planks for that Salmon you just bought from one of the fish vendors.  Also tiki torches from recycled wine bottles and lots of other cool hand made stuff for the home and garden.

Berries, Berries & More Berries

They’re here.  You name the berry we have it.  Blues, Raspberries, Marionberries and more.  Plus Cherries are here from Hood River and Yakima WA.   Beautiful Rainiers and others.  In case you didn’t know Bing cherries originated in our fair town of Milwaukie.

Buy Fresh Buy Local.  See Friends & Neighbors and hear great live music at your Milwaukie Sunday Farmers Market.  Thanks for supporting local farmers and artisans.

Summers Here & So Are The Strawberries

Summer’s finally here.   With the blue skies and warm sun come ripe delicious Hood strawberries,  the envy of the rest of the country. Get them while you can.  Local strawberries from Liepold Berries, M & M Produce, Thompson Farm and other growers will be on hand this Sunday and for the next few weeks.   Local, fresh and delicious come on down to your Farmers Market  to get the best Oregon has to offer.

Break in the weather?

Looks like this Sunday, Memorial Day weekend, will be the first nice day in way too long.  Yes there are a lot of people that refer to themselves as Ducks but soon they will have to refer to themselves as fish.  Enough about the weather.  This week our family had fresh sweet basil from, fittingly enough, Sweet Leaf Farm (Junction City).  Also tried 50 Licks (Portland) Lemon Coconut Saffron Sorbet, it’s out of this world.  Who knew so many flavors could go into one little package; lemon, saffron, cardamom & anise.  I usually say “If it’s not chocolate it’s not dessert” well I’m wrong about that.  This stuff  rocked my tastebuds.  Stop by for a taste and make sure to bring some home to the family.

Strawberries are almost here!

Despite a brief rain shower right before we opened we ended up with another beautiful day for week #2.  People have been asking where all the produce is.  The great thing about farmers’ markets is that you learn that unlike the grocery store we only have things at our farmers market that are in season right now in our region.  You wouldn’t find cucumbers and squash at our market this past Sunday because you wouldn’t find them growing in your garden right now either.  Beets, kale, carrots and onions were on hand.   Look for STRAWBERRIES starting to make their way to the market next week (5/23).

Returning 5/23:  Laurel Ridge Winery,  Spruce Hill Soap & Martinez Produce.

PS- Market Gourmet (the Tart Lady) is back.  Sweet or savory everything’s tasty under the pink canopy.

Best Opening Day Ever!

Perfect weather for a perfect opening day.   Commissioner Bernard (Market business manager) and Brendan Eiswerth (Market Master) welcomed everyone back to the opening day of our 12th. season.  The most beautiful day so far this spring gave us a near record turnout of customers.   Numerous vendors recorded record sales.  Zoe Ann’s Cheesecakes were completly sold out (it’s no secret they’re the best) and new vendor Coco & Co. Fine Chocolates had one of the best set ups I’ve seen in 11+ years as Market Master.  We were all treated to the great sounds of local Milwaukie singer/song writer Kevin Shay-Johnson (Farmer Slim). It was great to see so many community members out supporting their local farmers market.  Thanks for coming back.  Here’s to 25 more great weeks.  Hope to see you all again next week rain or shine.

Mother's Day is almost here.

Opening day is May 9th at 9:30.   Join us for breakfast or lunch, listen to some great music from one of Milwaukie’s finest singer songwriters and buy a beautiful bouquet for Mom.  A few of our newest vendors are Fifty Licks (Hand Made ice cream), Market Gourmet (sweet & savory pasteries) and Coco & Co. Fine Chocolates (the name says it all).
